New Phone System FAQ

How long will I be without my phone?
Since we are doing a rolling cut-over, phones will be moved to the new system one-at-a-time. Only one phone at a time will be moved so you’re department will not be totally without phone access. Each phone takes about 15 minutes to move depending on how complex its configuration.

Once I get a new phone, will I be able to call someone with an old phone?
Yes, the two systems will be tied together during the upgrade.

Will my phone number change?
No, phone numbers will remain the same.

Are long distance authorization codes no longer needed?
Yes.  Use your existing long distance code when prompted.

What is the default password for the new voicemail?
0000

Will I lose my personal voicemail greeting?
Yes, you will need to re-record your voicemail greeting.

Will I lose voicemail that I have saved?
Yes, you will lose any saved voicemail from your old phone. Users may wish to record any important voicemails to an audio file; there will be a limited opportunity after users have been transitioned to the new system.

How do I access my old voicemail while it remains available?
Call 2050 from your Alcatel-Lucent phone.

How do I access my voicemail from off-campus?
Call 609-771-2222. When the announcer starts talking, immediately press the # key.  If she completes her announcement before you press #, you need to hang-up and try again. Once you successfully press #, you will be prompted for your extension/mailbox number and then your voicemail password (press # after you enter your password, but not after you enter your extension).

How do I set my out-of-office greeting?
From on-campus, simply access your voicemail and press 3 (phone manager functions) then press 6 (record out of office greeting).

From off-campus call 609-771-2222. When the announcer starts talking, immediately press the # key. If she completes her announcement before you press #, you need to hang-up and try again. Once you successfully press #, you will be prompted for your extension and then your voicemail password (press # after you enter your password, but not after you enter your extension). Once you’ve accessed the voicemail system menu, press 3 (phone manager functions) then press 6 (record out of office greeting).

To disable your out-of-office greeting use the instructions above to access your voicemail again. It will notify you that you have an out-of-office message set. Press 4 to disable it or press 5 to keep it active.

When I want to make a call, the system says I have voice mail.  Do I have to listen to the voice mail before making a call?
No, you can just dial the number you want to call.  For on-campus, that’s the 4-digit extension.  For off-campus, remember to dial 8 first, just like you’ve always done.

Will training classes be offered for the new phone system?
Yes, training has already been provided.  If you need refresher training or specific training, please contact the Phone Upgrade Help Desk at x3441.
